Slate’s Mistakes for the Week of Nov. 17

In a Nov. 20 Crossword, Quiara Vasquez misstated which J.R.R. Tolkien book we were looking for Bilbo Baggins’ age from. It was The Fellowship of the Ring, the first book in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, not The Hobbit.

In a Sept. 24 Jurisprudence, Maya Menlo and Erin Van Campen misstated that the Tennessee Supreme Court would be hearing arguments on the drug-detecting-dog question. The court decided that issue in 2024 and heard arguments in October in a separate, related case.
